christmas movies!

On my list of favorite Christmas movies you will NOT find It's A Wonderful Life or A Christmas Story. The first is just overplayed and the 2nd one I just don't like. {sorry if this, as an American, offends you} But here are my selections:

Miracle on 34th Street: original or 90s version! I love, love, love them both! I have a feeling if I do ever have children we will have the conversational style of Dorrie and Susan. Adult to adult, woman to woman.

Holiday Inn: Technically this movie incorporates all holidays, but it starts at Christmas and ends there. It also is where the song White Christmas originated. I can't get enough of Fred Astaire dancing and Bing Crosby singing. It's definitely an all time favorite!

Christmas in Connecticut: Who doesn't love Barbara Stanwyck?? {okay the majority of my readers probably have no idea who she is} but she is fantastic, as is this movie. This is my mom's FAVORITE Christmas movie, and after repeated years of watching it with her, it is on my list as well. The movie centers around a food writer who has lied about being a perfect housewife and must cover her deception when her boss and a returning war hero invite themselves to her home for a traditional family Christmas. It's very entertaining and has that cozy Christmas spirit!

Little Women: Okay technically, not a Christmas movie at all, but when the movie begins it is Christmas time and it chronicles the March girls through some harsh winters in Massachusetts. I always have it on my list of holiday must watches. I'll never forget when my mom first gave me Little Women to read, it changed my life and how I felt about books. Who doesn't want the spirit and determination of Jo, the thoughtfulness and sincerity of Beth, the warmth and understanding of Meg and the beautiful and right amount of selfishness of Amy? It is definitely a mother/daughter favorite!

Love Actually: I don't remember when I first saw this movie, but during college my friend Savannah and I would cozy up in our dorm rooms or the sorority living room to watch this movie {a few dozen times} every holiday season. We LOVE it. It has British actors, great Christmas music, and wonderful love stories. It is just the BEST. {how could it not be with Colin Firth, Huge Grant, Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson and SOOOO many more}
This is the synopsis from IMDb:
Follows the lives of eight very different couples in dealing with their love lives in various loosely and interrelated tales all set during the frantic month before Christmas in London, England

Home Alone 1 & 2: You can't complete a list of Christmas favorites with out these classics. I feel like I've been watching this movie my entire life. My brothers used to always take the line "Kevin your SUCH a DISEASE" and transfer it to "Jessica your SUCH a DISEASE" {so sweet, I know!} I love, love the house in this movie too and how it's decorated for the holidays.

The last of my list is the ultimate Christmas quote movie {at least in my family, and I'm sure EVERYONE elses" Christmas Vacation: My family {well except for my mom who doesn't understand our love for a movie we've seen hundreds of times} can't go through a holiday season without at least one or two viewings and of course quotes from this movie. I know most people are all about Cousin Eddy and Clark, but I'm a big fan of Todd and Margo the next door neighbors. They crack me up! They are such a 90s couple. I love it. My dad's favorite is "Can I help you with that...please?!" He says this to me EVERY time I'm doing something. He NEVER gets tired of it! Also we enjoy a good "take it Russ-silence" too. plus many, many more.

I also love Elf, The Santa Clause, and any clay-mation!

Here's my list. What are some of your favorites??
