In honor of Valentine's Day Month my friend Casey blogged about her favorite girly, lovey dovey movies. It inspired me to compile my own list. Here's a run down of my favorite go-to girl movies:
The Notebook: Pretty sure this is on every. single. girl in America's list. I mean Noah & Allie, nothing can top that. And this is one instance where the movie is by far better than the book.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days: I love, love this movie. I love the clothes, the music, the Kate Hudson/Matthew McConaughey combo. This movie made me want to work at a magazine in NYC so badly. The best part is how Andie portrays all the TERRIBLE, CRAZY things girls do to boyfriends. We all know people that do these things. Best ones: scrapbook and the love fern!
The Prince and Me: Go to college, get a slacker chem lab partner who turns out to be a prince, live happily ever after. Perfect. This movie has a really good soundtrack too.
Something New: An uptight accountant falls for her handsome, adventourous landscaper, played by Simon Baker. Everything a good romcom is made of. My best friend Brooke and I randomly rented this movie in high school and were hooked! We always text each other when it's on TV.
Mamma Mia: I love musicals, I love Meryl Streep, and Greece is beautiful enough said. One Christmas break Brooke and I watched this like 3 times in a row. It's just so happy. I saw the broadway show in Memphis when I was in high school and was in love from that moment on with the songs and storyline. The movie just made me love it even more.
The Bodyguard: Yes, that's right. The Bodyguard. I love, love, love this movie. Whitney Houston singing, Kevin Costner saving lives, and super creepy celebrity stalker. It's the best. The last scene with Whitney singing "I Will Always Love You" and running off the plane is worth watching the whole movie for.
Dirty Dancing: Johnny & Baby. Do I really need to explain this one?
Runaway Bride: I love all Gary Marshall movies {except for that unfortunate Georgia Rule with Lindsay Lohan} Richard Gere & Julia Roberts together again, small town charm, and lots of wedding dresses. Also got to love the originial Richard/Julia pairing, Pretty Woman. This movie never goes out of style.
Wimbledon: I'm OBSESSED with this movie. I seriously have watched it numerous times in a row. I don't know what it is about it, but I love it. I love watching tennis and then throw some love in there (pun intended} I can't get enough. Sidenote--I spent an entire year searching for the watch Kirsten Dunst wears in the movie, I found the EXACT one in a random shop in Hot Springs, AR when I was on a Spa springbreak trip with my mother in high school. I was so proud of my find!
When Harry Met Sally: This is a movie I usually only watch in the fall. When the leaves start to change, I pop this baby in the dvd player.
Favorite Line: I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible- Harry
The American President: I'm sure you are not suprised. This is one of my all time favorite movies. A love story that begins with a political tirade in the Oval Office, a first date at a State Dinner, breaking up over a Congressional bill and making up hours before the State of the Union address. All the best things put together. I love Sydney Ellen Wade and Andrew Shepard.
Favorite line: "We had a nice couple of minutes together. She threatened me, I patronized her. Didn't have anything to eat, but I thought there was a connection"
Nancy Meyers Trio: Something's Gotta Give, It's Complicated, & The Holiday
All three directed and produced by Nancy Meyers. She does great girly movies. I just want to live on one of her movie sets. The Hampton's house from Something's Gotta Give, the English cottage from The Holiday, or Jane's ranch house in It's Complicated. They are like additonal characters to the films. She also does great, mature love stories. Not teeny booper stupid stuff. I just love it.
If you want to Cry: Love Story, A Walk to Remember & P.S. I Love You. All equally good, all equally have you blubbering with tears when the credits roll.
Epic and Grand Romances: Titanic, Gone with the Wind, & The Way We Were
Can't get enough of either. I'm eagerly anticipating the return of Titanic to theater in April. The tragic endings of Jack & Rose, Rhett & Scarlet, and Katie & Hubbell are what make it so memorable. You are always so mad everytime the ending comes. You always expect the ending to somehow turn out differently every time you watch it. That's what gets you to watch over and over. {also you can just turn the movie off after they hit the iceburg-as I used to do when I had the two tape VHS of Titanic, nothing good happens after the iceburg}
Sisterfriend Love: movies dedicated to the great friendships in life. I appreciate nothing more than the great group of friends I have. I'm seriously blessed. These movies make me want to stay up all night with them discussing life, love, the future, crazy stories of the past and everything in between.
Now & Then: Ahhh, if you've never seen this, I'm sending you a copy.
First Wives Club: Favorite movie of my adolescent besties Mary Claire, Brooke and I . I can't tell you how many times we watched this movie piled up in Mary Claire's bed with a pizza delivery and Diet Coke.
Sex & the City/Sex & the City 2: Nothing celebrates the bond of sister friends more than this. You can't help but want to show your friends some love after watching these.
Clueless & Mean Girls: Goes without saying.

Oh, Johnny Castle. He thought he was going to be getting DeNiro parts after this.... |

Center Stage: I can't count the number of times in college I curled up in my twin bed and watched this movie. My freshman year alone probably accounted for 100s of viewings. One weekend I'm pretty sure my roomate and I watched it about 10 times. Seriously. It would end and we would just start it over. My ultimate dream would be able to dance like Jody does in the end of that movie. Girl can work it. Watch it here
