Living: The Graduate

The Graduate is a classic American film. I remember watching it for the first time in high school, but I didn't really appreciate it until I was a little older and re watched after college. I loved the music of Simon & Garfunkel, the sexy black & animal print style of Anne Bancroft, and the complete awkwardness of Dustin Hoffman mixed with the 60s Pasadena lifestyle. This movie impacted an entire generation and inspired classic decor and fashion that is still popular today.

Living: Something's Gotta Give

Something's Gotta Give is one of my favorite movies. You've got Jack, Diane, The Hampton's, and Nancy Meyers set design. Perfect. I would die to live in Erica Berry's Hampton's writing get-a-way. Walking on those beaches with fresh Atlantic salt wind blowing on my face and running down to the french market for a few things. So relaxing and beautiful. I also love the distinct clothing choices. Erica's crisp white turtlenecks & chinos, and Marin's distinct floral Hampton's style as opposed to everyone's all black city attire. I also enjoy Harry's playboy, music mogul care free looks and doctor Julian's airy, beach-side professional wardrobe. And of course like Erica always wanted, a script that ends in Paris for a special birthday. It streaming right now on Netflix. Enjoy.

Living: Hitchcock

This past weekend I watched the movie Hitchcock with my parents. I had already seen it while visiting John and Bayley in DC last fall, but it never made it to the Tupelo theaters so my parents had to wait for an OnDemand viewing. I remembered LOVING this movie when I first saw it. The movie takes place during the time period of famed director Alfred Hitchcock's making of his most remembered picture, Psycho. Helen Mirren & Anthony Hopkins, behind-the-scenes look at getting a movie made, and 1950s-60s California decor--what's not to love?! The sets and wardrobe stuck out even more to me during the second viewing.

Movie Fashion: The Turning Point

Do you ever stumble across a movie on Netflix or TV and wonder how you "HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS MOVIE?" I did that the other day with The Turning Point. TTP stars Anne Bancroft and Shirley MacLaine as Emma and DeeDee former ballet, dancing best friends in NYC as members of The American Ballet Company. Emma became a star and danced her entire life while DeeDee married, had babies and now owns a dance studio with her dancer husband {played by Tom Skerritt-who knew they were in a film together before Steel Magnolias..NOT ME} in Oklahoma City. The company visits Oklahoma City and DeeDee is reunited with her former dancing life. DeeDee's daughter Amelia {a prima ballerina} is invited to join the company so DeeDee goes with her to NYC and the story unfolds from there with past jealousies emerging, regrets resurfacing, and secrets coming out. All with many ballet interludes from the real American Ballet Company and Mikhail Baryshnikov.

I love, love ballet and all dance movies. The fashion really stuck out to me in this movie. The personality differences of Emma and DeeDee are expressed distinctly through their clothing choices. I love Emma's feminine grace and elegance that is expressed in her pale color choices and classic styles,  and I love DeeDee's carefree cheery, mom-of-three trendy looks.

Such a great movie, with such great actresses. The ballet parts alone are worth a first time viewing, but the story line is interesting too. I might be watching this gem many more times in the future. So glad Netlix makes suggestions.
