fresh face summer makeup essentials

Winter is outta here, so it's time to indulge in some fresh face cosmetics. Nothing is more summer, warm weather to me than pinks. Here's a look into my make up bag:

1 and 4: I love L'Oreal Paris'  Colour Rich lipstick in "Blushing Sequin". You can pick it up at Wal-Greens and then I like to gloss it over with Stila's lip glaze in "Grapefruit". It's more Barbie pink in the tube than the picture shows, but it looks really bright and makes the lip standout over the L'Oreal lipstick.

2 and 3: I love, love Urban Decay eye shadow. I have their NAKED palate and I have never found a better and more versatile palate. For summer, I love the shade"Sin". It's a soft pink shimmer that's low key but still stands out. Like my mother, I have very sensitive skin and am prone to breakouts or allergic reactions to some makeup, so I've been on the hunt for a mascara for a while that didn't irritate or cause bumps around my eye. After many unsuccessful attempts and a long chat with a makeup girl at Sephora, I think I've finally found the perfect one. benefit's-They're REAL mascara.  I sampled it for a month and went back for a large tube a few weeks ago. FINALLY.

5 and 6: I'm a foundation girl. My skin is prone to break outs and imperfections so I have to have something cover it up, but I don't like my face to feel heavy-especially in the summer. I discovered this Make Up Forever High Definition foundation at Sephora about two years ago. It's PERFECT. It covers like no other, but still feels light and makes your skin so soft. Also it comes in this great pump so it's easy to put on. I've recently fallen into the world of BB creams. They seem to have exploded everywhere in the last year. I'm partial to this one from Smashbox. I dab it on in key sections of my face just to smooth things out and then proceed with foundation over. I think further into the summer once I get some sun I might just use to the BB Cream and give the foundation some rest.

7: As everyone knows, NARS blush in "Orgasm" is the quintessential go-to blush. Yes, it's pricey, but it's so completely worth it. I have the blush/bronzer duo with the "Laguna" bronzer included. I'm running low at the moment, thank goodness for Sephora gift cards.

8: This is my new Essie summer toe polish "Peach Daiquiri . It's way more hot pink than this photo shows. It's very close to OPI's famous "Strawberry Margarita". I like to switch up my fingernails weekly, but my toes don't change as often so I usually keep them a shade of red or pink.

What's in your makeup bag this summer?

easter happies

When I say PERFECT, I mean PERFECT-FOR-ME {hint, hint mom}. I love little happies of beauty products {lip sticks, eye shadows, or blushes}, magazines {I prefer Town&Country, Vanity Fair, or InStyle}, some pjs {these Ralph Lauren sleep shirts are so pretty and bright}, a great candle, or just a gift card and of course Reese's peanut butter cups in pastel wrappers!

What are your favorite Easter time happies?

hi ya spring.

We're bumpin' on into a new season. Time moves too fast. Stop, slow down a bit...please. Although I am thankful for some sunshine and flowers blooming.

Any big weekend plans? My bestie and recently engaged Brooke is coming to town and I couldn't be more excited. Can't wait to dish with her and hear the latest wedding planning news. I say it quite frequently, but I am so thankful for my amazing friends. They're the best.

weekend wrapup

I painted my nails "THRILL OF BRAZIL" // Thoroughly enjoyed the March issue of Southern Living while sitting on the back patio on Saturday//Yummy grilled steak, baked potato & asparagus dinner made by my parents on Saturday night// Went to see OZ: The Great and Powerful 3-D Friday afternoon with friends Heather & Georgia Wood from church// Obsessed over Shirley MacLaine movies for most of the weekend too--Terms of Endearment, The Evening Star, The Apartment, & Postcards from the Edge

Oz: The Great & Powerful was so good and TOTALLY worth the 3-D experience. Sometimes I don't really think it matters, but this one I totally recommend 3-D all-the-way!

How was your weekend?

5 things I'm obsessing over this week:

1. Draw Something: This an App for iPhone/iPad and highly addictive. I had been seeing tweets of people talking about it all last week so I decided to check it out. Now, I can't get enough. It's very simple. You draw a picture and then your opponent is given a group of letters and from those letters has to guess what it is. The more points you get the more colors you get. It reminds me of wasting away time with Paint when I was younger just doodling random things. Check it out. They have a free version, but right now it's only 99 cents to buy. My name is jkclayton if you want to doodle with me.

2. March 1st: March 1st in the District was the most beautiful day. It was the perfect way to start the spring months. Of course, the day before and the day following were cold and wet and not nice at all, but it didn't matter because March began on a POSITIVE note. I loved spending my lunch break eating at the park with the sun beating down on my back. I am forever in love with March 1st.

3. Livia Firth: Okay, so Livia Firth is the wife of the dashing English actor Colin Firth, and until this week I didn't really know anything about her. I randomly stumbled upon her twitter feed through a ReTweet and then was linked to her blog for Vogue and from there linked to her foundation and the love just kept on growing. First of all she's absoloutely beautiful. She's Italian and her and Colin's love story is precious, but whats so great about her is her Green Carpet Challenge. Basically she is encouraging celebrities and designers to use eco-sustainable materials in their gowns or wear vintage dresses, therefore recycling their clothing for red carpet events. This year at the Oscars she and Colin participated in the event with her gown & Colin rewearing his Tom Ford Tuxedo from last years Oscars,  as well as Best Actress Winner Meryl Streep. Here's the link to her VOGUE blog. She's pretty great.

4. Essie's Spring collection: I saw their colors on another friends blog earlier in the week and then went back to peruse them again on Thursday night when helping an awesome friend with nail polish selection via text. I can't wait to get my hands on some of these.

5. Old Lady Movies: This week I watched It's Complicated, Mamma Mia, and Calendar Girls. Maybe it's because I heard so much bad news this week about various loved ones and family members of loved ones, but I just wanted to watch light hearted happy things. All three of these never fail to make me smile.  Have to note the main characters in all three are 50+ women. I'm such a grandma.

What are you loving?
