I would like to thank the Academy...

So tomorrow night is the best night of the year THE ACADEMY AWARDS. If you ever read my blog, you know I love all things movie & celebrity. It was always a joke in college that "JCLAY only skips Chapter for the Oscars" And yes, I always did. I love the red carpet interviews, the song & dance opening, the make-fun of the nominees monologue, the speeches no one cares about from the art and tech people, and it all leading up to the big moment of Best Actor, Actress and Picture. Oh and then you can head back over to E! and watch the post award show interviews at the parties and there's always the Jimmy Kimmel Oscar Special. The next day you could usually rely on the Oprah Oscar Wrap Up with all the winners...What are we to do this year without it?!

I don't know if it was the first Oscar's for me to watch, but it is the first one I remember watching...Oscars 1998. The year of TITANIC. This is the first movie was whole heartedly obsessed with in every way. Seriously, I was in the 4th grade and I was OBSESSED. I bought every magazine that featured Leo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet or was even remotely Titanic related...Confession: I made a scrapbook....and I still have it. My desk at school was loaded with pictures taped to the top of it when you opened it up, and our very pretentious 10 year old, 4th grade selves would discuss the ill-fated Jack & Rose on the playground at snack time while drinking our CaprisSuns and eating our Fruit by the Foots. I now realize it was just the beginning of what would be a life of movie obsession and award show love. I'll never forget watching the award show. My dad was working the night shift at the police department so, as I often did when he was working nights, I was sleeping with my mom. I had my big notepad and markers out and I was keeping a tally of all the winners..especially when Titanic won. My mom long since fell asleep and I was still watching. I  would shake her awake when there was another win for Titanic {she could NOT have cared less}, but she humored me and my excitement. The next day I cut out the pictures in the local newspapers from the show, and begged my mom for all the magazines that came out the following week with all the pictures. This is when I really first remember loving magazines, movies, & celebrity gossip. It all started with Academy Awards 1998.

Usually I try to make an effort to see all the nominated films. Last year, I did pretty good. I saw them all but one. This year, though, I've really slacked off. It won't keep me from enjoying the glitz & glamour of it all. Ahhh....Hollywood's biggest night. Can't wait to see how everyone's styling on the red carpet! What's your favorite Oscar moment?
