Day 2: San Francisco

On Sunday, John and I had tickets to do a tour of Alcatraz. Bayley had already gone this summer when one of her friends visited, so it was just John and me. We took about a 15 minute walk from their apartment to the pier where you catch the boat. I have been to San Francisco twice before this trip, but never managed to make a trip out to Alcatraz so I was really excited! John picked up our tickets and we had a little time before the boat left so we got some breakfast at the cafe.  After we ate we went to get in line for the boat. It was a BEAUTIFUL day and the boat ride was very enjoyable {although John and I both got a little burn on our faces.} We went to the top of the boat for the ride out and set on the back bench.  Such beautiful views of the city from the boat and the island.

When we got off the boat we had to listen to a ranger say a few words, and then we went to see a short video before we went on the audio tour.  The tour was great! It was so informative and not boring.  The narrators were people who had been prisoners at one time and children who grew up on Alcatraz.  After we did the audio tour we went outside and walked down to the gardens.  We were there for about 3 hours and then took the boat back.

After we got back from Alcatraz we went to eat lunch with Bayley's cousin Melanie and her husband who live in the area.  We went to this restaurant called Mona Lisa in Little Italy After lunch we walked around the North Beach/Chinatown area.  We went to this neat place in an alley way called the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory. It's a little place and they will let you make your on fortune cookie. {If you are a Bachelor fan Tenley and Jake went here when they were in San Francisco}

The day ended with us going back to the apartment for a rest. That night John and I went to get some dinner, and Bayley stayed home to continue packing for the trip out the next day.
