weekend wrapup

This weekend I got the chance to catch up and hang out with hometown friends. Emily and Jane both went to high school with me and are both living in the district right now. We all met up in Georgetown on Saturday to see this gem of a movie:

I really LOVED this movie. It may just have been because I adore Jason Segal and Emily Blunt or the fact that it's show in San Francisco and Ann Arbor in places that I have visited or that it was just a really fun movie....whatever the reason I LOVED it. Not exactly the formula Rom-Com, which was quite nice and refreshing. After the movie we headed to grab some dinner at Clyde's in Georgetown. Yummy, yummy food and fantastic random conversation. So fun to catch up with two Tupelo friends.

Sunday afternoon I decided to head into to DC to explore since it was such a BEAUTIFUL day. Emily asked if I wanted to join her for a walk around the National Zoo. I, of course, accepted because I LOVE zoos and LOVE a chance to get to hang out with Emily some more.  She's a funny, funny gal! Also I love the Woodley Park neighborhood where the zoo is located. It's so pretty.

Here's the thing about the National Zoo..it's FREE...so you can't complain about the lack of animals technically. I mean yes, they have pandas, and lions, and elephants, and orangutans...but it's not always definite that you will actually see them! ha! But it is a fun place to walk around...ESPECIALLY if you enjoy some good people watching!

I woke up yesterday with the full intentions of doing absolutely nothing, but while I was checking e-mails I was gchatting with my friend Christa . She and MV were thinking about going to the Nationals game, and invited me to join them  since I had never been. I, of course, accepted and immediately got ready to head in to DC for the game. 

I met Christa and MV down at Navy Yard, and we first headed to the Opening Weekend Block Party. Then grabbed a bite to eat at Pot Bellys and went back to Christa's apartment for a little downtime before walking over to the game. I wanted to show true fan support for the team so MV let me borrow his Nat's cap for my first Nationals experience! We took full advantage of the ball park and enjoyed some cheese fries from the Shake Shack The Nats beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-1! I can't wait to go to more games. I had so much fun!

It was an absolutly beautiful weekend here in the District. On Friday, my friend Christa got off early so I met her Downton for a late lunch and some walking around. We ate at this sushi place in Chinatown {for the record, I really hate Chinatown in DC, it's always full of obnoxious hipsters, but it is home to lots of restuarants and mall like stores and movie theatre so one must venture down there from time to time} I do love this sushi place particularly. Christa and I got caught up and enjoyed a wonderful lunch. We left with no real purpose in mind. We just walked around Downton DC for a good hour and a half. We stopped to listen to a fun street band for a little while..we couldn't resist one of the little kids playing the trumpet was so cute! After walking for a while we got tired and decided to stop at this mexican restuarant for some chips & salsa and a drink.

Saturday was equally as beautiful. Christa and I had purchased tickets to the Madame Tussaud's wax museum on Groupon a few months back and we thought this weekend would be the best time to put them to use! I met Christa and MV in Chinatown, and we grabbed some lunch then we headed over. It was definitely worth the Groupon discounted price...I don't think I would ever pay the actual full price, but we got a great deal.

We stopped by Le Pain Quotidien afterwards for a treat. I love that place! Then we shopped around Downtown for a little while and then headed over to Georgetown for the rest of the afternoon. By the time I got home Saturday night I was exhausted. It was a FULL day, and lots of fun.

District Weekend

My friend Christa and her boyfriend MV went on a weekend law school campus visit so I stayed in DC and kept Thatcher, their sweet golden retreiver for the weekend. Friday after work I headed over to Christa's apartment, and I thought I would be greeted with a jumping, excited Thatcher. Instead I open the door to him sitting on the couch staring intently at Fox News. He glanced over at me and then went back to his program. ha! It was so funny. Once I sat all my stuff down I got him leashed and we went for an afternoon potty walk. Christa lives at the Navy Yard metro stop and it's an area that has recently been revitalized and is continuously growing. They have opened a lot of new restuarants in the area and built a lot of new apartment buildings and lofts. There is also a dog park and boardwalk along the river. The Nationals stadium is also in this area and the Department of Transportation. I enjoyed getting to explore the area while walking Thatcher.

After a long afternoon walk, we headed back to the apartment and I cooked a pizza and found a little ABC Family Harry Potter movie weekend. Thatcher and I chilled and enjoyed Harry for the rest of the night on the couch. Saturday morning I woke up, chatted with my mom on the phone and heard stories about my parents latest labordoodle puppy addition to the family. I can't wait to meet him sometime in the future! After I finished talking with mom I quickly got dressed to take Thatcher out for a morning walk. We really explored. We walked around for about an hour and a half. We tired each other out. We walked around the river front and all parts of the neighborhood and of course encountered a lot of other dogs a long the way.

We were both tired after this outing. We went back to the apartment and relaxed the rest of the afternoon. I did venture out for some lunch and to grab a milkshake, but the majority of the day was spent watching Beveryly Hills 90210 and Harry Potter. Thatcher didn't seem to mind.

Sunday, I went to eat lunch/brunch with Christa and MV at Le Pain Quotadien. They were still serving breakfast when we got there so I got some yummy french toast and strawberries with a cafe au lait to go with it. So yummmmy! After we ate we walked around Eastern Market and got some Pickles from this pickle stand. We got the sour ones. They have all different kinds and I really liked the Wasabi ones too.

After we left Eastern Market we decided to head over to the Tidal Basin and go see the famous Washington Cherry Blossoms that bloomed ahead of schedule this year due to the warm weather. They were BEAUTIFUL. I'm so glad I got to see them, since they only bloom for such a short period of time. We walked all around the Tidal Basin with the rest of the crowd. It was definitely a perfect day for this adventure. We also had a few Marine One sitings!

Such a fun weekend, but super tiring. I crashed when I got home Sunday night!

It was a perfect  BEAUTIFULsunny day. I can't wait for my lunch hour everyday just so I can go walk around and sit outside for a little while. I've been craving the sun and I try to soak up all of it I can in my short hour.

I found the BEST little Mexican to go place today near my office. I wasn't too hungry so I just got some fresh guac and chips. They also have homemade fruit teas. I got this passion fruit one and it was so YUMMY.

Happy {State Dinner} Wednesday

Tonight the White House is hosting a State Dinner in honor of the British Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife. The gates outside the White House are adorned with British flags in honor of the occasion.

What I wouldn't give to be a guest at this dinner. Set aside the fact that it's a White House State Dinner which would be awesome in itself, BUT guests include:George Clooney, Huge Bonneville & Elizabeth McGovern {Lord &Lady Grantham for you Downton Abbey fans} Carey Mulligan, and performances by Mumford & Sons and John Legend.

So this weekend my parents picked up this addition to the family:

I hung out with my friends Christa and MV and had a wonderful night out in DC on Friday, and I spent Saturday enjoying a burger from Good Stuff on the Hill and a shake from Potbellys then just being lazy.

They are the perfect combination

AND  this adorable new boy band from across the pond. They are called One Direction, and they came in third on the UK XFactor and were a Simon Cowell act. They are taking America over, and I have to say they are quite good. I caught a video of their performance from the Today Show this morning. They are just cuties and have fabulous accents. If the amount of screaming girls in Rockefellar Plaza are any indication, I  think they are the NEW thing.
